Overall Aims

1. To provide every student of English with further opportunities for extending their knowledge and experience of the cultures of other people as well as opportunities for personal and intellectual development, further studies, pleasure and work in the English medium.

2. To enable every student to prepare for the changing socio-economic demands resulting from advances in information technology; these demands include the interpretation, use and production of materials for pleasure, study or work in the English medium.

School-based English Curriculum

Native English Teachers

          There are two native English teachers in SKWTTS.  Miss Lien Thich teaches P.1 to P.3 students reading and writing skills.  Miss Alena Kuptsevich teaches P.4 to P.6 students reading and speaking skills.

Outside Classroom

English Debate Team

          The primary objective of the English Debate Team is to enhance students various skills, i.e. presentation, argumentation, critical thinking, collaboration and information skills.  These skills help them enhance the cognitive development of young learners.  Through engaging students in a broad range of debating activities, their world knowledge is increased and their self-confidence is developed.  The English Debate Team recently got the champion in the 20th HKPTU English Debating Competition.

Puppetry Team

          Puppetry is an effective and versatile learning tool with a unique approach to the development of literacy skills in a fun and engaging manner.  It supports our belief in catering for learner diversity by creating a variety of learning opportunities for students that foster the development of all four language skills, i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing.  The Puppetry Team was the champion of the “Story-to-Stage” competition by the NET Section of the Education Bureau in 2018.

Literature Circle

          The Literature circle aims to engage students in critical thinking and reflection as they read, discuss, and clarify information for one another.  It encourages a love of reading in young people.  In the literature circle, a small group of students gather to discuss a piece of literature in depth.  Such discussion is guided by students’ response to what they have read.  Students reshape and add onto their understanding as they are expected to construct meaning with other readers.

Story-teller Scheme

          The main purpose of the Story-teller Scheme is to train senior students to be story-tellers who bring story to life to junior students.  This promotes story-tellers’ imagination and self-confidence by encouraging them to apply a number of storytelling skills, including appropriate intonation, stress, gestures, facial expression and elaboration during storytelling sessions.  At the same time, it promotes students’ genuine interest in reading and cultivates English reading habits among students.

Little English Teacher Scheme

          Senior students are trained to be little English teachers so as to boost their confidence in speaking English and assist P.1 students in learning English during recess.  Various types of English activities are held for P.1 students during recess.

English Ambassadors and English Week

          In order to cultivate an English-rich learning environment at school, a team of English ambassadors is set up.  They cooperate with teachers in different English activities and promote English learning.  During the English Week, there is a wide range of programmes which include English performance, English broadcasting programmes and exciting and interesting English game booths.
